CLUBHOUSE USE HEATS UP FOR THE SUMMER
Summer is definitely upon us at the NSCA Clubhouse with the end of the school year parties, graduations and home coming events that we are experiencing. There have been numerous conflicts lately, with back to back events causing friction for lots of homeowners and tenants. To helpfully avoid future issues with neighborhood parties, here’s a quick review of the procedures and policies that seem to help us all share our Community Clubhouse successfully.
Any organized party with six (6) or more guest requires a rental of the Clubhouse or BBQ Area. However, BBQ area rentals are NOT allowed on weekends during the summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, due to the high demand of all our residents to use this space freely. Only the Clubhouse can be rented during these times. As a quick refresher, here is our policy on the BBQ area:
BBQ PATIO AND SAND BEACH RESERVATION POLICY (August 2008)
BBQ Patio and adjacent Sand Beach events have become increasingly popular for birthdays and various celebrations and have also become bigger in both the size of the structure and the size of the crowd than ever before. This increase has made it necessary for the Board to develop a policy that will insure the continued enjoyment of the Clubhouse for our members as well as the safety of those using the bounce house. With that in mind, the Board adopted the following BBQ Patio and Sand Beach Reservation Policy on August 5th, 2008
- Members are allowed to apply for BBQ Patio reservation through AMMCOR and must be approved prior to guarantee use. The same Clubhouse Rental fees will apply.
- BBQ area reservations are permitted Monday - Saturday from 10am to 5pm, during the off season months (September thru May)
- BBQ area events are NOT allowed in the summer months (Memorial Day Weekend thru Labor Day Weekend) without special permission of the Board and only on a limited basis. If approved, they will only be permitted Monday - Thursday between 10am and 5:00pm.
The Clubhouse (Board Room and Open Area adjacent to that) is available for rental all year round so if you really want to have a summer party, we still have options for you.
Please contact our Management Company, AMMCOR, should you have any questions about having large parties at the Clubhouse. Our Property Manager’s name is Juliana Dickinson and she can be reached at (949) 661-7767, ext 298, or by e-mail at jdickinson@ammcor.com. Please feel free to ask detailed questions well in advance of your event date, so that you host a party that is a success for both your guests and your neighbors. These policies are put into place so all members can enjoy the facility at anytime. Thank you in advance for your consideration of others.

Grub will be provided by Lou’s Barbecue and will include rotisserie roasted tri-tip and barbecued chicken plus rolls, baked beans, potato wedges, cole slaw and fresh corn on the cob for $15.00. Kid’s meals will include chicken tenders, corn on the cob and potato wedges for $7.00. Chips, dip and dessert will also be provided. Miss Vickie from ‘Do It In Line Dancers’ will lead us in an hour or two of line dancing and her husband Tom (also known as Bubba) will be the DJ. Miss Vickie says no partner, no special clothing and no talent necessary. Two left feet? No problem.
Please send in your reservation form early. Due to limited space we may need to cut off the number of people attending. The catering for this event will be pre-sale only. Your help makes these events fun for all - please contact Gina Lesley at 646-9269 or glesley@roadrunner.com to volunteer! We especially need “artists” to help with creating the decorations. Teenagers welcome to help one day in August to create and paint special effects. This is our big end of summer blowout! Make plans today to attend the Labor Day BBQ.

MAYOR HOLDS "BEST ATTENDED" OFFICE HOURS IN THE NEWPORT SHORES CLUBHOUSE
On June 18th Mayor Keith Curry held his monthly office hours at our Clubhouse. What is normally just a handful of people that visit with the Mayor ended up being over twenty at our fine facility. The Mayor fielded questions about City Hall (both the new and existing sites), Banning Ranch, Sunset Ridge Park, canal dredging by the Army Corps of Engineers, the mobile home park, rehab homes and many other issues.
A majority of the meeting was spent talking about City Hall and that $130 million dollar effort in Fashion Island. There were also questions about what will become with the existing City Hall site, which is currently under study. We found out that Albertsons at 32nd Street is leaving and that the Pavilions might possibly be moving into that site. The old City Hall site and the existing Pavilions might be reconfigured for better purposes. The Lido brick yard is also in the mix for redevelopment.
Banning Ranch was also a hot topic and we found out that the Draft EIR for the 1375 home and 75,000 square foot commercial development will be out for public review this summer. The Mayor also touched on the City’s rehab home ordinances and how they have benefited our community as a whole.
It was very informative to those who attended and it was good to see the interest from our community. We believe the Mayor was very impressed with our little slice of Newport Beach.

4TH OF JULY SHINES WITH SMILES
Community events like the 4th of July Bike Parade and BBQ don’t plan themselves. They require volunteers to step up, take control and donate their time and energy to organize events that the whole neighborhood can enjoy. In this case, Sandi Bulgin and Kennie Jo Rizzo are the ones who are primarily responsible for your holiday fun. If you haven’t taken the time to get involved with the Shores Event Committee, at least take a moment and thank those that do. This was one great 4th of July and we’ve got the pictures to prove it!
