SWIM TEAM TRIAL PARKING PERMIT PROGRAM
In the past few years parking complaints have risen for both swim team participants and neighbors around the clubhouse during the swim team operation, especially on Monday and Tuesday when the streets are being swept. In response to this during the last half of the summer swim team program your Board of Directors, in concert with the City, executed a trial parking permit program near the Clubhouse (see permit conditions and map on the next page).
As you are probably well aware, the City issued temporary parking passes to both residences near the club house and swim team participants which allowed parking between 9:30 and 11:15 on the restricted street sweeping side of the street. Essentially, using the temporary parking pass reduced the hours the City could sweep the street in those areas to 11:15 to 12:30. This trial program worked fairly well with only a few vehicles not moving their cars for the sweeper during the reduced time frame. We understand from the City that most of these vehicles were neighbor residents and not swim team participants.
The board will soon be discussing a full summer trial program for the next summer swim team season between June 25 and August 7, 2012. Again, this will only shorten the street sweeping time frame to 11:15 to 12:30 and your vehicles must be moved prior to this or they may be cited.
The Board is seeking input to this "trial" temporary parking permit program and we would greatly appreciate your input before making their decision for the 2012 season.

WINTER WONDERLAND
The holidays were much brighter in the Shores this year. It started off on Sunday, December 4th, with food, drinks and caroling at the Clubhouse. Over 30 people helped plan this event. Space does not allow me to list each name, but I need to give special thanks to Anne Hammerschmidt for turning the Clubhouse into a Winter Wonderland complete with snowflakes, Harbie the snowman and a frosted forest; to Jo and Ken Barrett for finding Sergio to hang lights and for spending all the time keeping them lit when they went out; and lastly to Jennie Ericson for painting the absolutely beautiful card in the Circle that expressed Happy Holiday Wishes to everyone. Thanks also to all of the cooks who made chili and macaroni and cheese. I also thank all of you that did such a good job on decorating your houses. This was the brightest holiday in the Shores on record.
Aside from this we were also able to donate several gift cards, many blankets, diapers, clothes, etc. to The Child Abuse Prevention Center. The Center called me the day after they picked up our donations to express their appreciation and to let the Shores know that we helped many people have a better Holiday. Thanks to all of you who donated. I told them that we are having our annual Garage Sale on May 19th and that we would set up a donation area that day. They will provide me with a list of their needs at that time but please keep this in mind if you will be getting rid of cribs, blankets, children's clothes, etc. that could be put to good use by families in need. The Newport Shores neighborhood has a reputation for knowing how to have a good time, along with a reputation for extending ourselves to help others. The Winter Wonderland proved both true.

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR 2011
This year's Holiday Home Tour was a great chance to see the best of the Shores! Our residents got together and had a great time celebrating beautiful homes and wonderful friends. We also managed to raise a nice donation that was used to send gifts to our military servicemen who are stationed overseas. Huge thanks go out to our generous residents who allowed everyone to tour their homes, our volunteers and all our participants.

Julia Gilbert & Mike Correll showed us all what a great remodel looks like. Their third story deck got rave reviews.

Roger Clearworth hired Doug Wooding to help redesign his traditional A-Frame into something spectacular.

Mike & Leslie McMaines completed their remodel of one of the nicest homes directly on the Canal.

Joan Steen & Alan Smith opened up their custom built home to a happy crowd of friends and neighbors.
